Bellydance

Origins

Bellydance origins are a topic of huge debate and is believed to have a long history within the middle east - that being said, studies have also shown links to India, Greece, China, Spain, Iran and the Rom/Roma Gypsies. The topic of origins can be widely discussed, however, the fact remains that this ancient art form has been around for centuries.

According to ancient rock engravings in Sicily, Indian paintings, Greek sculptures and Egyptian tomb paintings, Bellydance started as a fertility ritual embodied with motherhood and fruitfulness. Others say the dance form started to worship the gods. Nonetheless, Bellydance is not a dance for seduction, rather a family dance performed at weddings, birthdays, births, festivals and many other occasions.
